SOLAR PANELS IN CHURCHES

SOLAR PANELS IN CHURCHES

Solar panels

Solar heating systems primarily produce hot water. Some systems can also be connected to the central heating system and can contribute with underfloor heating in the summer.Solar heating is not currently considered relevant for churches since the consumption of hot water is very limited. Very few churches have underfloor heating and floor heating is in any case not turned on during the summer. Finally, setting up solar panels is not accepted on churches or on buildings or areas near the church due to aesthetic considerations.

Permission

Setting up solar collectors will require permission. The diocese and the municipality must be contacted.

Economy

A complete solar heating system typically costs between 35.000 and 65.000 kr. to install. The solar heating system cannot contribute significantly to the warming of the church. It mainly produces hot water, which requires a relatively large water consumption (around 50 m3 hot water per year), to enable a healthy economy.
